Raised Beach / Fall Bay
Raised Beach / Fall Bay

At the back of the beach at Fall bay are remnants of an ancient 'Pleistoscene' beach from
125,000 years ago when sea levels where 10m or so higher than now.
As in the photo , beach materials - pebbles , sand , limpet shells ( 'Patella' sp. ) -
rest on a shore platform of Fossiliferous Limestone ( Crinoids are most noticeable ).
These materials were naturally cemented together with Calcium enabling sheets
of the raised Beach to survive.
Above this 'Patella' beach is a layer of up to 1.5m of clay with rounded boulders
and then a layer of about 5m of cemented angular limestone fragments.
