Popton Fort / Built between 1859 - 1864 / Designed to function in conjunction with Hubberston Fort as an inner line of defence for Milford Haven .
Casemates (without their Iron Shields) for 11 Guns , 6 Moncrieff guns (1869) only 2 mounted , with their disappearing carriages , in pits above . 10 Guns in Open Battery , only 7 mounted.
The barracks are a six-sided figure with bastions at each corner , accommodation for 270 men .
The Casemates are visible from the West side of the fort , with the barracks on high ground above .
Changes to the armaments over the life of the fort.
The fort was disarmed in 1905.
