4.7 - DINAS HEAD - NEWPORT
A distance of about 7 miles.

A path along Cwm Dewi gives a direct route to Cwm Yr Eglwys.
Cwm Dewi is a swampy valley , cut by Glacial meltwater from the Preseli Hills .
This was the same Ice Age meltwater that formed the Gwaun Valley further along the coast.

From Pwllgwaelod the path climbs up to Dinas Head (466ft), with steep cliffs and good views to the west , towards Strumble Head .
The path heads down with views along the coast to the east and Cemaes Head / passing another "Needle Rock", with a large seabird colony in the breeding season - Guillemots / Razorbills ---
And on to Cwm-yr-Eglwys, with the remains of a church , destroyed by the great storm of 1859 , The "Royal Charter" Storm , leaving the belfry wall and some of the graveyard .
The "Royal Charter" was an emigrant ship (Australia) , wrecked off Angelsey with the loss of 450+ lives . The storm wrecked over 100 ships along the Welsh coast .
The path follows the lane out of the village and rejoins the coast path .
The coast has lower , but steep cliffs , with a number of bays with good bathing beaches , and wooded valleys heading inland .
The bays east of Aber Fforest were used as Sea Quarries to extract Shale Slabs for buildings and walling and have the best examples of wave cut platforms in Pembrokeshire / visible at low tides . House Martins nest on the cliffs in this area.
The Nevern Estuary is eventually reached , with the vast expanse of Newport Sands .
Passing an old Lifeboat Station and the Old Quay at the Parrog - Newports Old Port / with a car park .
