4.3 - ABER DRAW (Aber Felin) - ABER MAWR

The bay at Aber Draw ( Aber Felin ) has the remains of a watermill with some millstones , which closed in 1918 . A sandy beach appears at low tide .
An intriguing , lonely , rocky coastline , with rough sharp edged stacks , impressive cliffs , arches , caves , awaits .
Garn Fawr , above Strumble head , begins to loom large .
The path passes Pwll Olfa / Pwll Llong - a small bay below / Pwll Whiting , and reaches " Pen Castell Coch" , an impressive penninsula , with wild flowers in spring , and a good viewpoint .
Approaching Abercastle / a FP sign directs to Careg Sampson , a fine Neolithic Burial Chamber - 3,000 BC , with great views on a clear day . Legend has Sampson placing the Capstone on its supports , using his little finger .
Further on "Yns y Castell " , at the entrance to Abercastle harbour , the burial place of Sampsons little finger ! Good views from this islet , which can be reached at low tide . The path around the harbour passes cannons used as bollards , and a lime kiln .
Abercastle - Cwm Badau ( Bay Of Boats ) , has a plaque near the beach to Alfred Johnston , who in 1876 completed the first solo trans - atlantic voyage , in the 20ft boat "Centennial".
The path moves away from Abercastle , passed a ruined building - (grain store ) , and along a stretch of wild and rugged coast , with stunning cliffs , ragged rocks and pinnacled stacks . Excellent Views .
The Bays have been cut into the Ordovician Shales , leaving the Headlands of Ordovician Igneous Rock .
Headlands - Trwyn Llwynog , good views , and Penmorfa are passed , and on to Aber Mawr with a sandy beach and pebble storm bank , formed from material deposited as a result of rising sea levels at the end of the Ice Age.
The remains of a submerged forest can sometimes be seen on the beach .
