4.1 - WHITESANDS - ABEREIDDY
A distance of about 7.5 miles.

From Whitesands Bay ( Porth Mawr ) , a very popular beach / surfing area / only a short walk to St David's Head , with views over to Ramsey Island and the smaller Islands of the " Bishops and Clerks" - igneous rocky outcrops - with a lighthouse on South Bishop Rock.
Smalls Lighthouse is in the distance. In 1801 the original wooden tower was the scene for a tragic and gruesome tale / when one of the lights keepers died .
A neolithic burial chamber (Coetan Arthur) , may be spotted on the way , with views inland dominated by Carn Llidi (181m).
A footpath can be taken which leads to Carn Llidi and gives fantastic views on a clear day.
Manx Shearwaters - the Seabirds with nocturnal habits - may be glimpsed / during the breeding season (may - sept) / near St David's Head and the coastal path to the east / thousands flying low over the sea , in the evening and early morning , as they move between their feeding areas and nesting sites on Skomer / Skokholm Islands .
Iron Age hut circles / can be found on St David's Head after passing through the stone bank / ditches , part of "Warriors Dyke".
Near St David's Head is St George's Channel / a narrow strip of sea / extending to Carnsore Head ( Wexford - Ireland ) / seperating the Celtic Sea from the Irish Sea .
Route away from the head , passes Coetan Arthur , through early summer flowers , heather in August , in a large area of Coastal heathland.
Ancient Iron age field systems of small walled enclosures may just be visible below Carn Llidi , before the bracken grows to tall .
Carn Lleithr / Perfedd / Treliwyd - inland - are passed , and on to climb Carn Penberry (175m) , all hard igneous , volcanic rocks / Dolerite - ( dark rock / medium grain / crystallized magma ) .
Views ahead in the distance to Strumble Head , with its Lighthouse , and the bulk of Garn Fawr (213m) .
Route continues above bays with Seals / Pups in Sept / Oct , and on to Abereiddy.
Along the coast to Strumble ( Pencaer Penninsula ) / the bays are eroded Ordovician Shales / the Headlands - hard Ordovician igneous rocks .
