2.1 - WEST ANGLE- PEMBROKE DOCK

A distance of about 18 miles , with 3 miles to Neyland (via the Cleddau Bridge).
--------------------------------
The route passes :-

Thorn Island with 1 of 4 Napoleonic Forts ( Palmerston Follies ) on this section / occupying nearly all of the island , built 1852/9.

Glimpses of Chapel Bay Fort (No2) ( plans for a museum ? ). And offshore in the Haven - Stack Rocks Fort (No.3) / Angle Lifeboat Station / Ruins of old lifeboat station at Angle Point.

Old Point Public House . Then Angle Village - with its creek and small boats / remains of a 14C fortified Manor House (Tower House) . Rhoscrowther Oil Refinery dominates the area !!. A spectacular sight at night

The long shoreline of Angle Bay (2 Miles) has extensive birdlife on the mudflats , waders , curlew , heron , oystercatchers ------- .

View of Fort Popton(No.4) from Sawdern Point , Fort can be approached by taking a road away from coastal path . Path then passes through woodland and crosses Bullwell Bay - pebble beach (oil jetty in view !) / Pwllcrochan Flats (Path to Mud Flats) / Pwllcrochan Church ( with a Wetland Nature Reserve nearby).

Path moves away from the coast , near former power station , (a new power station - 2,000mw gas fired station is under construction - completion 2012) , missing the west side of Pennar Mouth , where the Pembroke River joins the estuary . Past Lime Kiln near Goldborough Pill . Past Quoits Mill , through Monkton to Pembroke Castle and Town.
Pembroke was enclosed by a fortified wall - much of which is still standing / the Town Gates have been lost.
The town and castle stand on a limestone ridge, along which runs the busy Main Street with fine Georgian houses .
A guide to a trail around the Towns Walls is at pembroketownguide
The path then follows the north bank of Pembroke River to Pennar , then follows Roads through Pembroke Dock.

Views :- via local roads , Pennar Park , Fort Road (martello tower ) . Hobbs Point .

Estuary crossed by the Cleddau Toll Bridge , to Neyland .

Bus - "Coastal Cruiser" - West Angle , Angle , Freshwater West ,
Pembroke , Pembroke Dock .

Parking- West Angle , Angle (road to Old Point Pub) , OUTSIDE Oil Refinery fence Rhoscrowther-SM898-021. Pwllcrochan Church , Pembroke Castle , Pembroke Dock.
