1.1 - AMROTH - TENBY SOUTH
Distance about 6 miles .
This section is the most heavily wooded . The trees being sheltered from the salt laden south westerlies . Views are not as freely available as on the rest of the route .
Path follows a road above Amroth Beach , where the remains of a "petrified forest" , drowned by rising sea levels at the end of the last Ice Age , about 6,000yrs ago , may been seen , at low tides / low sand levels . A number of other beaches around the coast show this feature - under optimum conditions .
Good views on clear days to the east , over Carmarthen Bay , to The Gower and the "Worms Head" (Rhossili).
A former tramway , to Saundersfoot Harbour, for the Kilgetty Coal mines and Stepaside Iron Works , is joined at Wisemans Bridge / tunnel of an old coalmine - now gated is passed / with the "miners tunnels" linking to Coppett Hall , and another tunnel to Saundersfoot /
Saundersfoot has a fine beach / shops / cafes / pubs.
Path then passes through the two busiest Seaside Towns in Pembrokeshire . First Saundersfoot , then along a coastal path , through woodland / tunnel of an old coalmine , now gated , is passed / then the path to Monkstone / track to Waterwynch / to a road above North Beach Tenby , ( a strenuous section of path ). Passing the Iconic harbour scene of Pembrokeshire , with pastel coloured Georgian and Regency buildings overlooking Tenby Harbour.
Tenby - Dinbych-y-pysgod - (the little fort of fishes ) , an attractive walled town with excellent beaches and services.
At low tide, it is possible to walk , part of the route between Amroth and Monkstone Point , on the beaches . And at very low tides between waterwynch and tenby north beaches .
There are, however, a number of pinch points , and it is possible to be cut off with high unstable cliffs behind!!
