1.1 - AMROTH - TENBY SOUTH
A distance of about 7 miles .
------------------------
This section is the most heavily wooded . The trees being sheltered from the salt laden south westerlies . Views are not as freely available as on the rest of the route .
The path follows a road above Amroth Beach , where the remains of a "drowned forest" , submerged by rising sea levels at the end of the last Ice Age , about 6,000yrs ago , may been seen , at low tides / low sand levels . A number of other beaches around the coast show this feature - under optimum conditions .
Good views on clear days to the east , over Carmarthen Bay , to The Gower and the "Worms Head" (Rhossili).
Then a cliff top path between Amroth and Wiseman's Bridge . The track of a former tramway can then be followed to Saundersfoot Harbour , with the "miners tunnels" near Coppett Hall , and Saundersfoot .
The tramway was originally built for the Kilgetty Coal mines and Stepaside Iron Works .
Or the cliff top path can be followed from Wiseman's Bridge to Coppet Hall
Saundersfoot has a fine beach / shops / cafes / pubs.
The path then passes through the two busiest Seaside Towns in Pembrokeshire . First Saundersfoot , then along a coastal path , ( a strenuous section of path ) / through woodland / passing a tunnel of an old coalmine , now gated / past the FP sign to Monkstone Point , another path to Monkstone Beach , further on - a track to Waterwynch (sand here , on a low tide )/ to a road above North Beach Tenby / Passing the Iconic harbour scene of Pembrokeshire , with pastel coloured Georgian and Regency buildings overlooking Tenby Harbour.
Tenby - Dinbych-y-pysgod - (the little fortress of fish ) , an attractive walled town with excellent beaches and services.
At low tide, it is possible to walk , part of the route between Amroth and Monkstone Point , on the beaches . And at very low tides between waterwynch and tenby north beaches .There are, however, a number of pinch points , and it is possible to be cut off with high unstable cliffs behind!!
