Popton Fort / Built between 1859 - 1864 / Designed to function in conjunction with Hubberston Fort as an inner line of defence for Milford Haven / Casemates with Iron Shields for 11 Guns / 6 Moncrieff guns (1869) , with their disappearing carriages , in pits above / 12 Guns in Open Battery / The barracks are a six-sided figure with bastions at each corner / accommodation for 270 men /
The Casemates are visible from the West side of the fort , with the barracks on high ground above .
