Gannet

Grassholm Island is the second largest Gannetry in the Atlantic with over 100,000 birds.
The largest breeding Seabird in the UK / Breeding Resident / Dives steeply into the sea with half -folded wings turning to attack fish near the surface / Makes nests of seaweed, grass and feathers on cliff ledges / incubating eggs under the webs of their feet / They lay one to two eggs a year , between April and May and incubate them for 44 days and the chicks fledge at 90 days / There are Gannets around Grassholm from February until October / Gannets travel as far south in the winter as South Africa / The older birds will stay in European waters / They can also fly daily to the waters of northern Spain .
Typical Lifespan 17 years.
