1.8 - BULLSLAUGHTER BAY - GREEN BRIDGE OF WALES
Gash - Breccia
In Flimston Bay is a wide section of sea cliff - comprising Limestone fragments in a cementing material - gash breccia .
One Possible Theory for this feature :-
Rain / streams dissolve out caverns , in the limestone , the sides and roof collapse ... and fill with angular limestone fragments in a sandy matrix / calcite cement - sometimes stained Red , as here ??.
Or :-
A Fault Breccia resulting from the grinding action of two fault blocks as they slide past each other . The broken fragments have become cemented together through the action of water ???
Present marine erosion is now cutting in to the former Karstic Landscape , and exposing this rock type.
